image generator

This looks to have huge potential. My grandson would have a lot of fun with it, but I have restricted myself to a quick look

Wetpaint

This looks as if it might be easy to use. I had a look at someone's thing about Windsor which is where I got married which is why it caught my fancy. If I had put that on the web I think I would mind if some else edited it or addded to it!!

Book Lovers Wiki

This was a marvellous collection of book reviews, which I can see would be useful for Readers Advisory

Tip of the iceberg

I looked at icebergs and found my mind boggling at the extent to which cyberspace is taking us. I could also see what huge potential there is for the next generation of librarians. It is daunting abut also exhilerating to try to comprehend all the possibilities, especially for providing what the patron wants, where they want it, and how ( in what form , book , internet, blog etc) they want and will expect to get it.It's happening so quickly as well. I found this exercise intereasting.

Technorati

Searching in Technorati I found that there were over 98,000 hits for Web 2.0 about 14,00 blogs 598 for the next one, getting quickly less and less. Found it difficult to locate Blog Directory, until shown that it was Blog Centre ?

Exercise # 8 Bookmarking

I can see hat this would be a good tool for use on the ref desk as was indicated by one of the sites I looked at.
I can understand the implications of the social side of it, sharing information and thus increasing information at a huge rate.

RSS Part 1

I found this very confusing and mind boggling. I an see that there would be uses for RSS within the library system, but I would have to use it often to feel at all confident in my ability or its usefulness.

#6 Save as ...send as

I found out how to change the type of attatchment and send to others who haven't got the same version of soft ware . As I was sending to a whole raft of people this was very satisfying!

#5 Photos on photos

I looked at Montagr and liked the way the photos had been put together as a background which also then deliniated a face. Very clever, way out of my league.... at the moment.

Flickr

I have looked at Flickr, with a lot of help from my friends!! and I can see that in the future it could be useful as a much safer way to collect and keep photos.I am not a keen photographer, but I do have old photos which I would be interested in storing in a safe place, like Flickr..

Exercise 2

I know how to find and create a new post, which I didn't before and I see that you can edit change and delete it. I understand what a blog is and I have created one and named it. I didn't have much luck with the help videos, perhaps I was impatient. Where are the tabs for selecting different colours on the template, or am I in the wrong bit at the moment? Guess I am. I am going to try #3 now.

RSCM

As my blog name is "Singer" I thought it would be a good idea to say something about the subject. When I was first in Church choirs we had a system started by the Royal School of Church Music - hence the cryptic title, by which we progressed in stages from novice to experienced chorister. This is a world wide institution and is alive and well in New Zealand. A new phase has been stated for school and cathedral choirs called "Voice for Life" and I know of at least one school where it is being taught. It's heartening to know that young people are coming up through the system to replace, eventually, all us oldies.

Computers

Why can some people easily understand how to use them and others find it so difficult? It's this digital immigrants, dinosaur thing.I just seem to go round and round in circles . I think it's knowing where to look for directions, but I can tell you that it is very frustrating when you know there is information there and you can't access it. There is the fear factor as well, - no one like to look foolish and with computers this is something I feel very often. But I am not going to let it beat me, so on with the motley!

Exercise # 2

It's all a bit confusing and frankly terrifying, but I am glad that I have started and I must try to enter the world of digital immigrants and leave the world of digital dinosaurs. Just found the spell check!
